How to send email from an alias on your FourteenRockets mailbox in Microsoft Outlook on your Windows computer.
What is an alias?
An alias is an extra email address that delivers to your existing mailbox. For example, hello@yourdomain.com as an alias on yourname@yourdomain.com. Receiving works straight away and needs no setup. Sending from the alias is the part Outlook keeps well hidden, and that is what this guide covers.
We have already added the alias to your mailbox for you. If you would like an extra alias, just let us know.
Before you start
Check which version of Outlook you have, because Microsoft currently ships two. Open Outlook and look at the top of the window. If you see a New Outlook toggle in the top right corner and it is switched off, or you have a File menu in the top left, you are using classic Outlook. If the toggle is switched on, or there is no File menu, you are using new Outlook.

A note about new Outlook
Sending from an alias does not work properly in new Outlook yet. If you type the alias in the From field, new Outlook still exposes your main address to the recipient, and Microsoft has confirmed this cannot be changed at the moment. Until Microsoft fixes this, use classic Outlook for alias sending, or use webmail, where you can simply pick the alias as the sender when writing a message.
Step-by-step instructions for classic Outlook
Step 1
Click New Email to start a new message.

Step 2
In the message window, open the Options tab and click From in the Show Fields group. A From button now appears above the To field. You only need to do this once, as Outlook remembers the setting.

Step 3
Click the From button above the To field and choose Other Email Address.

Step 4
Type your alias address and click OK.

Step 5
Write your message and send it as usual. The recipient sees the alias as the sender, not your main address.
From now on, the alias appears in the From dropdown, so next time you can select it with one click instead of typing it again.
Always sending from the alias
Would you rather have Outlook use the alias for every message by default? That is possible by changing the email address on the account itself, while your login name stays the same.
Open the Windows Control Panel, search for Mail and open Mail (Microsoft Outlook). Click Email Accounts, select your account and click Change. Under User Information, replace the email address with your alias and leave everything else, including the username, exactly as it is. Click Next and then Finish. Outlook now sends every message from the alias.

These settings can be a bit fiddly, and the dialog varies slightly between Outlook versions. If you would rather not dig around in there, contact us and we will set it up with you.
